ABOUT SILVER STREET TAVERN

Our History

2 Silver Street has been a centerpiece of downtown Waterville since its construction in 1877 and has been designated as an Historic Structure by the National Park Service. It was originally home to Waterville National Bank, then served as the Waterville Post Office at the turn of the century. In the 1920s, following its first major renovation, it became home to Giguere's Clothing Store, hence the ornate "G" on the beautiful stained glass windows. In the early 1970s, a second major renovation transformed the first floor into the landmark restaurant known as the Silver Street Tavern. A recently completed major renovation restored the upper floors to historic standards and the building received the 2015 statewide Historic Preservation Honor Award.

OUR LADY

Growing up only blocks away, I remember the crossfire of opinions in the early 70s as the beautiful and scantily clad lady was hoisted to the corner of Main and Silver Street to provide signage for the newly opened restaurant. As time passed, the naysayers soon grew to appreciate the artistry, and the beauty of the mysterious woman. Who she is, we do not know. However, we do know that this timeless lady is a symbol of downtown Waterville at its finest moment and we welcome her back to our city.   -Charlie Giguere, Owner
